St. John Neumann Parish

Penance/Reconciliation

St. John Neumann

In this sacrament, we are reconciled with God, which allows us to acknowledge that our sins have harmed ourselves and others. We confess our sins with sincere sorrow to a priest who acts in the person of Christ and the community to extend God’s mercy and absolution. Lastly, we perform “penance” – prayers or acts that attempt to repair the damage our sins have caused.

Confession Times

On Saturdays from 9:30 – 10 am, Father Al is available for the Sacrament of Penance in the Reconciliation Room in the chapel. You may also call the secretary at 412-366-2020 ext. 10 to schedule an appointment at another time.

Parish Penance Services with private opportunity for Reconciliation are held during Advent and Lent at St. John Neumann, St. Alexis, St. Alphonsus and Sts. John & Paul Parishes. Check the parish bulletin for date and time.

First Reconciliation Preparation

Reconciliation and Eucharist Preparation acknowledge the importance and vitality of the domestic church - the family. Sacramental preparation focuses on the family and offers at-home materials for parents and children as well as community rituals and celebrations as the children journey toward their first reception of these sacraments. Immediate preparation begins usually in May of 1st Grade with an informational meeting and a special prayer. Two years of regular attendance at a religious education program and weekly Mass are presumed by the Diocese of PIttsburgh.
