St. John Neumann Parish

Religious Education Policies

Absences

The Diocese of Pittsburgh requires that parents notify us in advance when children will be absent. To report your child’s absence and reason, please call the Religious Education secretary at 412-366-5885 ext. 12. Please do not email, as we may not always check email on time. If you have not left a phone message and your child is not present, you will receive a call notifying you that your child is missing.

Make-up Work

For children in Grades 1-6 who miss a week, the Pflaum Gospel Weekly for that age group will be mailed to your house. Please be sure your child completes this work and returns it the following week to the catechist. That absence will be excused when the make-up work is returned.

Arrival

Children should arrive on time.

Those younger than third grade should be accompanied to the classroom or atrium door by an adult. That adult should not leave the child until the catechist or aide has arrived.

Early Dismissal

A signed note from the parent is required when the child is dropped off. At the designated time, the parent should come to the classroom or atrium door to sign out the child . Early dismissal often disrupts the conclusion of a presentation or communal prayer time. It should be reserved for medical appointments or other serious situations.

Cancellation

Cancellations are posted on KDKA and WPXI. (Those stations also list closings and delays on the internet.)

When North Allegheny Schools have a two-hour delay, any 9:30 am and 1:00 pm sessions will be cancelled.

If NA schools close early or cancel for the day, all afternoon and evening Faith Enrichment for children will be cancelled.

If NA Schools have been in session for the day but weather becomes inclement, listen for a cancellation announcement for “St. John Neumann - Franklin Park” during the North Allegheny school day or check KDKA or WPXI.

Emergency Contact

If you need to contact us during your child’s session, please call 412-366-5885 ext. 12. This is the direct line for the Religious Education secretary. Someone is always assigned to answer while children are in the building. If there is no answer, leave a message and you should receive a return call shortly.

If we need to contact you while your child is at St. John Neumann, we will try all the contact numbers listed on your registration form until we reach someone.
